THE IMPORTANCE OF NDT IN THE RAIL INDUSTRY

The rail industry is a strategic sector that plays an essential role in economic development, sustainable mobility, and territorial connectivity. As one of the oldest modes of transport, it has evolved over time to meet the growing demands for passenger and freight transport while integrating technological and environmental advancements.

To ensure the safety and reliability of transport, rails must be of impeccable quality. The slightest defect could compromise their functionality and lead to significant human and environmental damage.

To address this, CMS has designed and developed innovative and precise Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) systems and probes by Eddy Current and Ultrasonic capable of detecting even the smallest defects, both on the surface and internal, whether on railway tracks in use or during their production. Several rail profiles can be inspected such as P50, P65, PK50, PK65, OP 50 and OP 65.

Our implemented systems

Our applications perform complete rail inspections using rotating Eddy Current or Ultrasonic probes. They detect numerous defects present on new or used rails, such as:
