Home | OUR INSPECTION METHODS – EDDY CURRENT
Eddy currents are widely used in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to detect and characterize surface and subsurface defects in conductive materials, with a penetration depth of up to 30 µm under optimal conditions.
These currents are induced by a variable magnetic field generated by a sensor. They circulate locally within the examined material, with their distribution and spread influenced by several factors:
When a defect is present in the material, the flow of Eddy Current is disrupted, altering the apparent impedance of the sensor. This change depends on the nature and size of the anomaly.
These variations are displayed in real-time on the instrument screen as Eddy Current signals or Lissajous figures. The amplitude and phase of these signals provide information about the nature of the detected defect.
Eddy Current are also affected by the electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability of a material. Therefore, this inspection method can also be used for Material Sorting applications.
Inspections with CMS Eddy Current devices:
Detection of surface and sub-surface defects with very high sensitivity: external, transverse, longitudinal, oblique defects, holes and cracks
Perform conductivity measurement
Perform high-temperature inspection
Perform material sorting, checking hardness and heat treatment
Ends and full body of the product inspection
ERW weld inspection of tube
Our Eddy Current systems meet the requirements of European and international standards (ASTM, API, DIN, SEP, BS, ISO, ASME, ASNT, SAE…), calibration standards and comply with NF EN ISO 15548-1, NF EN ISO 15548-2, NF EN ISO 15548-3.
