Billets are semi-finished products generally obtained through continuous casting or hot rolling. With a round, square, or rectangular cross-section, they can be made of steel, aluminum, or copper. They serve as an essential raw material for numerous manufacturing processes and play a fundamental role in metal transformation.

In the industry, billets represent an intermediate step in the production of various metal products:

  • The production of bars, wires, sheets, and tubes through the hot or cold rolling of billets
  • The manufacturing of high-precision components for the automotive, aerospace, and mechanical engineering sectors through billet extrusion

Installed on-line or off-line, our specially designed systems can detect a wide range of defects arising during the various manufacturing processes:
 
  • Surface/subsurface defect detection using Eddy Current systems: longitudinal and transverse cracks, streaks and scratches, metallic inclusions, pits, and cavities… often caused by issues during continuous casting or rolling.
  • Internal/External defects detection thanks to Ultrasonic systems: porosities, internal cracks and inclusions…


The identification and correction of these defects are essential to ensure the quality of billets and prevent issues during their transformation into finished products.
